Filmbot is a modern point-of-sale ticketing system helping the next generation of independent cinemas thrive. We launched in 2017, and are currently powering the websites, online ticketing, and box office ticketing for a number of both contemporary and historic theaters nationwide.
Filmbot provides customizable websites and a streamlined ticketing point-of-sale for cinemas and film festivals, powered by WordPress. We proudly support contemporary spaces and historical renovations from New York to California to Alaska to Australia, and are continuing to grow. This position offers the opportunity to make impactful contributions to an established product while providing meaningful support to the independent cinema and film festival community.
We’re looking for a senior full-stack developer based in a North America timezone to join our small distributed development team.
Responsibilities:
- Architect and develop features and bug fixes for our WordPress and React applications
- Conduct code reviews to maintain quality standards
- Collaborate with the CTO to improve architecture and engineering standards
- Translate product goals and business needs into written development requirements
- Contribute to and maintain our AWS infrastructure
- Assist the customer support team with technical troubleshooting
- Participate in our shared on-call rotation (once every 4 weeks), for emergency support coverage during peak movie theater hours (nights and weekends)
- Serve as backup for emergency technical issues when the CTO is unavailable
Qualifications:
- Experience working with high-availability large-scale WordPress, bonus for WordPress Multisite/Multi-network
- 5+ years experience with modern PHP, MVC Frameworks, and MySQL
- 3+ years of experience with AWS (RDS/EC2/S3)
- 2+ years experience with JavaScript (jQuery/React/Node), CSS, SCSS
- Excellent troubleshooting and debugging skills
- Familiarity with Vagrant, nginx, php-fpm, and the Linux command line
- Solid understanding of networking concepts
- Experience with e-commerce payment gateways and APIs, such as Stripe
- Proven experience managing time and team communication in a remote work environment
- Based in the United States, preferably eastern time zone
- Fluent in English

- You have a deep understanding of WordPress, PHP, and React code architecture and design patterns.
- You’re confident in deploying and optimizing production systems.
- You understand the level of stability that’s required for apps that power face-to-face sales interactions for client businesses.
- You’re comfortable providing in-depth code reviews to other developers.
- You take pride in communicating clearly, directly, and with empathy.
- You’re comfortable jumping in to troubleshoot customer issues in real-time when the support team needs a hand.
- You’re happy operating within a small team, rather than a large corporate environment.
- You have an informed perspective on the use of AI tools, for supplementing both development team productivity and/or the Filmbot product.

Benefit:
- You will be hired as a remote full-time employee with an annual salary range of $100k – $125k, depending on your experience and location.
